I have tried every fabric. Silk (beautiful, high-maintenance). Cotton (fine, forgettable). Velvet (dramatic, seasonal). I always come back to linen.
Linen gets better with use. It softens. It wrinkles in a way that looks intentional rather than neglected. It breathes. It has a texture that says 'I have taste but I'm not trying too hard.'
I have linen curtains, linen bedding, linen napkins I use every day because I refuse to save nice things for guests. I have a linen blazer I've worn to everything from a board meeting to a Sunday market.
If you're building a wardrobe or a home and you don't know where to start: start with linen. In the color that scares you slightly. You'll thank me.
